The point spread function (PSF) is the core element of all optical microscopy images. It depicts the diffraction image of a point-like light source, such as a single molecule emitter, and directly affects the resolution and quality of experimental images.
The central objective of our research in this area is to develop a complete theory of the illumination and detection PSF of various sources and incorporate it into PSFLab, a widely used, free computational software developed by our research group.
